This morning the Middle School Cross Country Girls took home a second place finish with 101 points at the Heritage Hills Invite. Jasper Middle School placed first with 68 points. This course is flat and fast, and six out of our eight runners this morning had a new lifetime or seasonal personal record set(LPR/SPR). Each week these girls come out and set a new record for themselves. One of my favorite things about coaching this team is that they get so excited about their times that when they see their new times and us coaches are out on the course cheering for the boys they come to find us to celebrate. These girls give all they have and leave it on the course every meet. We had two top ten finishes, Indy Hill placed seventh with a time of 11:37 setting a new LPR for herself with a time of 11:37, placing eighth with also a LPR was Sadie Franklin with a time of 11:40. I love watching these two because they push each other each race and really put on a show on who is going to get to the finish line first. The next two runners we had were in the top 25, and both of them also set LPRs and had amazing finishes. Eastyn Knight placed 20th, running 12:35, and Kaebri Yon placed 25th with a time of 12:41. The rest of our top seven finishers placed very well today helping us grab second place. Those runners were Elliot Heeman placing 45th with a time of 13:05, Khloe Nixon placed 49th with an LPR of 13:10, and Mia Query placing 112th with a SPR of 15:21. Our last runner of the day placed 116th with a time of 15:26. There were 160 girls in this race and our girls did a great job not getting sucked into different packs. These girls are fun to watch and we are so grateful to have an amazing team that works together and gives their all no matter how they are feeling. Aiken Whitehead and Jase Cowan took on the boys race with great confidence. They were both saddened that they didn’t set a new personal record but they kept their heads up and said they would get it next time. These two boys show up weekly and give their all even though they don’t make a full team. They never give up and always have smiles on their faces. They are such hard workers and make coaching them a lot of fun. Aiken finished 61st with a time of 12:33, and Jase finished 103rd, with a time of 14:27 out of 140 boys. We are grateful for our High School team who came out early to support us before their race, their cheers and support, we believe as coaches helped our runners today. It gave our runners the opportunity to see who to look up to and to have a goal of where they will get to be one day. Thank you also to all the parents, siblings, other family members and friends who come out and support. Without you guys our team wouldn’t be as good as they are!
